My Story

Anthony Cortés, PhD

Bio Sketch

Anthony Cortés was born in New York City to a nurturing Latino family. Dr. Cortés graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Engineering. For several years Anthony worked as an engineer and volunteered in local civic and cultural organizations. He relocated to Michigan to complete a Master’s degree and continue his work with underprivileged community groups.

After completing his masters, he moved to Pennsylvania working as a project director and school administrator in Christian non-profit organizations for ten years. For the next 15 years, he worked for the Milton Hershey School (K-12) one of the largest private residential education schools in the world for social orphans and vulnerable children. He was instrumental in building the school’s philosophical approach to parenting social orphans and developed unique adult learning programs that impacted the lives of thousands of social orphans and families from low social-economic backgrounds. Anthony earned his PhD degree in Human Development from Marywood University located in Scranton, PA.

In 2015 he began work at Samaritan’s Purse International Relief corporate offices in Boone, NC as Child Protection and Development Advisor traveling worldwide assisting with orphans and vulnerable children, trauma prevention programs, refugees, and other displaced people. Two years later Anthony was recruited to serve as the Chief Operating Officer for the Crossnore School and Children’s Home in Winston Salem, NC to support the merger of two campuses.

Currently, Dr. Cortes is the CEO and Owner of a successful health care agency that supports medical staffing and homecare needs for the aging population and disabled people.  His passion for the most vulnerable people and families is evident in his personal journey, community service and career.

Anthony’s extensive experience includes over 30 years working in the field of youth trauma, adult education, healthcare, and human development including expert knowledge in resiliency research, positive psychology, instructional leadership, and practice. He has served in community and non-profit boards, Boy Scouts of America, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Leadership Winston-Salem, Leadership Venice, Gulf Coast Board Institute and Rotary to name a few.

An important aspect of his life is “la Familia” – his family; a lovely wife, two daughters (one is an Accounting and the oldest is a Physician Associate), two sons (a Doctor of Optometry and the youngest is a Registered Nurse) and the scores of tíos, tías, and primos he loves dearly.
